Updike
A murit un scriitor foarte mare, John Updike. Nu ma pricep la necroloage, dar o sa citez doi autori. Mai intii pe Updike insusi, cu un sfat frumos pentru cei care doresc sa devina scriitori, sfat care-l defineste perfect:
„Read the classics until you are excited by them. The basic teaching tool writers must use are other people’s books; the classics.”
Si apoi remarca intervievatorului Peter Conrad, dupa un dialog purtat cu scriitorul la sfirsitul anului trecut, in contextul crizei:
„He has done more to enrich us than all of Wall Street’s bankers and brokers, and his books, unlike the papery profits of the Stock Exchange, will not lose their value.”
